It has been quite some time since I last heard something as fresh and innovative as MuteMath’s latest album “Odd Soul”. The band has had some great moments in the past but nothing special enough to set them apart from the masses, at least not in any significant way.

All of this has changed though by means of their brilliant third album. The re-invention that had taken place here is staggering, to the point of a 180 degree turn. Gone are the overwhelming guitar effects and dominant synths. This is a mix of blues, jazz, rock and the occasional swing, all mixed together masterfully to create a unique sonic experience. Throughout the album the amount of tracks that are sub-par are few and far between, and that is something you don’t see every day .

Having to pick favorites is very hard but I think those next  few songs capture the high points of the album:
